Anthony

Anthony B. Barton (Georgetown University Law School, 1972)
is a partner in the Corporate and Commercial Practice Group
of the Firm. His practice focuses on commercial, corporate,
banking, financing, employment, real estate, securities,
and regulatory matters. Mr. Barton drafts and negotiates
complex contractual agreements in many types of transactions.
This work includes mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures,
as well as extensive commercial, mortgage, asset-based
and tax-exempt financings, real estate and equipment leasing,
and private placements and public offerings of securities.
In addition, he often serves as outside general counsel
for companies, handling their myriad of legal issues.
Mr.
Barton has wide-ranging experience in regulatory work with
various federal and state agencies, including the Securities
and Exchange Commission, the Department of Labor, and the
New York State Office of the Attorney General, Investor
Protection Bureau, Real Estate Finance Bureau, and Charities
Bureau.
He has represented numerous corporate employers
relating to their employment issues, including employee
handbooks, hiring, terminations, noncompetition agreements,
employment agreements, severance agreements, discrimination
claims, plant closings, overtime, OSHA, COBRA, HIPAA, independent
contractors, and employment practices insurance. He has
written a number of articles, including recently, “Telecommuting:
A Possible Alternative for Employers.”
Mr. Barton has received the highest
lawyer rating designation, “AV” from
Martindale-Hubbell. This rating is based upon extensive
confidential peer review surveys.
Mr. Barton is a member
of the American, New York State, District of Columbia,
Nassau County, and Suffolk County Bar Associations, where
he serves on several committees. He has served as a member
of the Oyster Bay Cove, NY Planning Board and as an Executive
Board Member of the Theodore Roosevelt Council (Nassau
County) of the Boy Scouts of America. He has also acted
as a governor of the Harvard Club of New York City, a governor
of Groton School, and a trustee of Hoosac School. He is
a graduate of Harvard College, cum
laude, 1969.
