Attorney Peter
R. Mineo Discusses Lake Success’ position on “Heritage
Areas” in latest issue of Newsday
State Oks Plans for Long Island Heritage Area by Sophia
Chang, 12/26/06
Mineola, December 26, 2006 — Attorney Peter R. Mineo
offers commentary in the latest issue of Newsday concerning
the Village of Lake Success’ potential participation
in the development of Long Island’s first Heritage
Area, a plan by the North Shore Heritage Commission to promote
tourism and development on Long Island.
As counsel to the Village of Lake Success, Mr. Mineo discusses
the importance of municipalities taking careful local considerations
prior to adopting regional planning studies, "[The
plan] kind of runs contrary to why municipalities were created
in the first place. They like to chart their own course,
and they like to be involved on a very, very local level,"
Mr. Mineo, explained. "We're still going to take a
closer look at it because there may be elements that we
can embrace, and maybe we can do something on our own,"
he concluded.
Peter R. Mineo concentrates his practice in zoning, land
use and municipal law and represents a wide variety of private
clients, including many national corporate chains and municipalities.
He is the Village Attorney for three villages and has been
retained as special counsel by a number of other municipalities,
particularly on zoning and other land use issues and litigation.
Mr. Mineo is a member of the New York State and Nassau County
Bar Associations and has spoken at numerous professional
seminars on zoning topics.
